Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue Big Head Todd and the Monsters

Sunday, June 9, Co-Headline Show

Since the release of their Grammy-nominated 2010 debut album, Backatown, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue have further refined their signature "Supafunkrock" sound while winning hordes of new fans performing nonstop on five continents. Their latest album, For True, debuted at #1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart and ranked #1 for twelve weeks overall. It has since garnered many awards including Album of the Year or Jazz Album of the Year from DownBeat Magazine, OffBeat Magazine and Rhythms Magazine. This past year alone Trombone Shorty has collaborated with artists including Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Rod Stewart, Cee Lo Green, Prince, Erykah Badu, Maceo Parker and Zac Brown Band. A new album, produced by Raphael Saadiq, is set for release in Summer of 2013.

Big Head Todd and The Monsters could have begun resting on their laurels back in 1993, when their Top 10 singles “Bittersweet,” “Broken Hearted Savior,” “Circle” and “It’s Alright” pushed the album Sister Sweetly to platinum certification. However, Todd Mohr says, “I’ve fought throughout our career not to be a one-trick pony, to be the kind of band that has depth and diversity in its catalogue.” The essence of Big Head Todd and The Monsters – a rootsy, emotionally direct variety of rock ’n’ roll that lends itself particularly well to a live setting – has been winning fans since the band started playing together in high school. Needless to say, the three never expected to be in the same band at this late date, but over 20 years later, Big Head Todd and The Monsters are still making records. In 2010, the band released the album Rocksteady and in March 2011, 100 Years of Robert Johnson, an album of Robert Johnson covers, which debuted as the #1 Blues album on iTunes and hit #2 on the Billboard Charts. This year the band comes full circle, marking the 20th Anniversary of Sister Sweetly.
